It is true that if you don't use your muscles, you will lose the ability. Atrophy (shrinking) occurs even at the cellular level. Have you noticed your reach isn't as long as it was or your gait has gotten shorter?
You use repetitive motions every day, so your muscles have created muscle memory. You are able to perform day to day tasks generally well, but may be bypassing the smaller muscles. If you try a new task or mix things up a bit, your muscles may get sore. Regular exercise will help those forgotten muscles work again by delivering nutrients by way of blood to the cells. Regular strengthening and stretching as your body allows will wake your muscles up and alleviate pain, fatigue, and stiffness. It's never too late to begin! Come to class. Be encouraged. Feel better. ***Remember to "like" my Facebook page to see lots of fun pictures.
