When I began teaching fitness (2009) I was at the Hilliard Ray Patch YMCA. One of the directors pursued me to teach because of my passion and attendance at various classes consistently. When I first made the decision to accept that challenge, I told my direct supervisor that I will become an instructor - AND I want to be THE BEST. So, I asked her to put me through all of the training that would support that goal. She did. I became sought after because of my style of coaching.
I then became the Active Older Adult Coordinator at the Y. The attendance in each class was impressive. I developed relationships with the people, I cared, and I instructed proper form and helped them correct their form along the way. (See testimonials.)
During this time, I became the fitness coach for the teachers and staff at Hilliard City Schools. They came to me at one of the school buildings I was assigned. I developed more relationships and helped people feel less tired and more energized after their long stressful day. This led the participants to develop rapport with each other and to make better food choices when they got home.
I also started a ministry at my church and another church. So many good things happened!
Many of the people are still clients to this day!!
I eventually took a leap of faith and left the Y (2012). The New Lifestyle had been developing, and it was time for me to focus on that mission through building out my home studio and investing in more equipment.
Meanwhile, I continue my education. Through the Y, I have SilverSneakers, EnhanceFitness, Delay the Disease, body sculpting, step aerobics, stability ball, tubing. (See below)
I am incredibly proud of earning my American Council on Exercise certificates (Personal Fitness Instructor and Senior Fitness Specialist)! They are impressive courses, and my investment of time and money is so worthwhile!
I want you to know this so that when you are ready, you will be confident that you can trust that I have you and your clients' best interest in mind, and I will develop science-based exercises that will build them up and not tear them down.
